Overall B-

A respectable, level-headed haul for the Steelers: B-.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Cade Klubnik; the Steelers did not wait, grabbing him 34 spots ahead at the 53rd overall pick. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

Landing Allar that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

The Steelers indulged a want in Lew while a need in interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots stayed open.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Gennings Dunker
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get a blindside protector at fair value. More want than need.
Pick53 Rnd2 Cade Klubnik
Cade Klubnik at the Round 2 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick76 Rnd3 Skyler Bell
No drama and no debate, Skyler Bell went about where he belonged in pick No. 76. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick85 Rnd3 Connor Lew
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots to take Connor Lew, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick99 Rnd3 Harold Perkins Jr.
Harold Perkins Jr. in slot 99 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick121 Rnd4 Xavier Scott
Xavier Scott slipping to No. 121 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick135 Rnd4 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Ar'maj Reed-Adams in pick No. 135 leaves interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots for later.
Pick159 Rnd5 Drew Allar
Somehow Drew Allar was still sitting there in slot 159, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick213 Rnd6 Isaac Smith
Isaac Smith at the 213th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick214 Rnd6 Lawson Luckie
Lawson Luckie in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick224 Rnd7 J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant at pick 224 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick237 Rnd7 Joey Aguilar
Steal is underselling it; Joey Aguilar at No. 237 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
