Draft Profile: Bio
Shavon Revel Jr., cornerback out of East Carolina, began his collegiate career at Louisburg College before transferring to ECU. After seeing limited action in 2022, primarily on special teams, Revel became a full-time starter in 2023. He appeared in all 12 games, recording 54 tackles (29 solo), 3.5 TFLs, 1 sack, 12 pass breakups, and 1 interception. His performance earned him Second-Team All-American Athletic Conference honors.

A former two-way player in high school, Revel also excelled in track and field, posting impressive times in the 55-meter and 300-meter dashes. At ECU's summer camp, he clocked a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash and recorded an 11-foot standing broad jump. Revel's senior season saw him named to several preseason watch lists, including the Chuck Bednarik, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, and Paycom Jim Thorpe Award.

Despite a delayed start to his Division I career, Revel's trajectory has been steep. He transformed from a special teams contributor in 2022 to a shutdown corner in 2023, demonstrating significant growth in a single season. His diverse skill set allowed him to impact the game in multiple ways, including blocking two kicks in consecutive games to close out the 2023 season.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Exceptional length and frame at 6'3" allow him to disrupt passing lanes and match up with bigger receivers
  • Elite straight-line speed (4.40 40-yard dash) to carry vertical routes and recover when beaten
  • Fluid hips and change of direction skills to mirror receivers in man coverage
  • High-level ball skills, as evidenced by his 12 pass breakups in 2023
  • Versatile defender capable of playing press-man, off-man, and zone coverage schemes
  • Strong tackler who isn't afraid to support the run, tallying 54 tackles in 2023
  • Special teams ace with ability to impact the game as a gunner and kick blocker
  • Rapid development curve suggests his best football is still ahead of him
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Only one year of high-level production as a starter, raising questions about consistency
  • Can be overaggressive in coverage, leading to penalties and big plays allowed
  • Needs to add functional strength to his frame to better jam receivers at the line
  • Zone coverage instincts are still developing, occasionally caught flat-footed
  • Older prospect (fifth-year senior) with a non-traditional path to the NFL
Scouting Report: Summary
Revel's tape shows a boundary corner with the physical tools to match up with X receivers at the next level. His length and recovery speed allow him to stay in phase on vertical routes, while his fluidity enables him to mirror routes in the short to intermediate areas. Revel's ball skills and competitiveness at the catch point translate to playmaking ability in the secondary.

Scheme fit will be crucial for Revel's early success. His skill set is best suited for a press-man heavy system that allows him to use his length to disrupt releases. While he has shown flashes in zone, his instincts and spacing in off-coverage need refinement. Revel's special teams acumen provides immediate value while he develops as a corner.

The arrow is pointing up for Revel, but his draft stock is complicated by his limited starting experience. Teams will need to weigh his impressive physical traits and rapid improvement against the risk of projecting based on a small sample size. His ceiling is that of a lockdown corner, but he may require patience as he adjusts to the speed and complexity of NFL offenses.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
