After high school, Speights joined Oregon State.In 2019 as a freshman Speights saw action in 12 games and played a total of 555 snaps at linebacker for the Beavers. He recorded decent 51 tackles, 17 assists, while adding 36 stops. In coverage Speights notched up 2 pass breakups, one interception, and QB rating when targetted of 70.2. As a pass rusher, he added 17 total pressures, which included 9 QB hurries, 3 QB hits, and 5 sacks on the season.

- Speights can move laterally and chase in pursuit. A tough, violent tackler with a non-stop motor, Speights also shows good awareness when dropping into coverage.
- Keeps feet moving after initial contact. Jumps inside as a counter to typical rush, but needs to show a larger variety of moves.
- Flashes closing speed and agility to reach passers from the blind side or up the middle before they can escape.
- Greet feel in coverage. Often arrives at the receiver at the same time as the ball, giving up few yards after the catch. Possesses straight-line speed to stay with or chase down receivers in man.
- Quick to read run, showing good agility and speed to get past blockers and finish. Experienced in coverage and gets a strong jam on outside receivers.
- Showed initial quickness and good flexibility to dip and bend. Speights has active hands and suddenness to his movements, demonstrating the ability to counter inside.

- As good as Speights is attacking downhill, he can get overaggressive and overrun plays, opening up cutback lanes for counter runs.
- He’s often slow to react and locate the ball against the run.
