Following high school, Gargiulo opted to join Yale.In 2019 as a freshman Gargiulo saw action in 10 games and played a total of 757 snaps for the Bulldogs. He allowed an unipressive 15 QB hurries, 5 QB hits, and 2 sacks while playing at left tackle.
As a sophomore in 2021 he played in 4 games and a total of 241 snaps. He conceded 4 QB hurries, no QB hits, and no sacks while playing at left tackle.
In 2022 as a junior Gargiulo saw action in 10 games and totaled 636 snaps. He gave up 6 QB hurries, one QB hit, and no sacks while playing at center.
After season's end Gargiulo transferred to South Carolina where as a senior Gargiulo saw action in 12 games and played a total of 796 snaps for the Gamecocks. He allowed an unipressive 25 QB hurries, no QB hits, and one sack while playing the majority of his snaps at center, and the rest at left guard.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Quick setting up after the snap and slides well to the outside, staying patient and balanced off the snap.
- Has good footwork and technique. Balanced and agile pass protection set with excellent hand placement.
- Quick feet to get inside of defensive tackles to wall off inside and reach linebackers at the second level.
- Fires out of his stance with a good pad level, consistently winning at the point of attack.
- Gargiulo thrives on physicality, often out-grappling bigger defensive linemen and winning in the phone booth with tenacity and upper-body strength.
- Gargiulo will have a chance to develop as a right tackle or possibly inside at guard, where Gargiulo could be an interesting prospect for a zone-blocking team. If nothing else, that versatility is enough to make him at least a quality reserve.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- He’s often too mechanical as a pass protector, oversetting and getting beat inside.
- Not great on the move, playing with poor balance when asked to pull and struggling to adjust in space when attempting to block faster defenders on the second level.
- Oversteps on his kick-side, allowing too wide of a lane back inside for pass rushers able to re-direct quickly. Has more power than quickness, struggles to re-direct and hit the moving target. Lunges too often, leading to flailing missed blocks.
