Draft Profile: Bio
Nate Matlack from Olathe East High School was rated a 3-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, Matlack joined Kansas State.

In 2021 as a freshman Matlack saw action in 13 games and played a total of 295 snaps for the Wildcats. He recorded just 9 tackles, one assist, while adding 12 stops. As a pass rusher, he added 18 total pressures, which included 10 QB hurries, 4 QB hits, and 4 sacks on the season.

As a sophomore for the Wildcats in 2022 Matlack played in 13 games and took part in 304 snaps for the Wildcats. He recorded just 3 tackles, 2 assists, while adding 4 stops. As a pass rusher, he chalked up 13 total pressures, and 10 QB hurries, one QB hit, and 2 sacks during the year.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Matlack has prototypical size, with a little more room on his frame to add weight. He shows impressive quickness at the snap and plays at a good pad level.
  • He explodes off the line with a quick first step, with agile feet to counter inside and closing burst to finish plays.
  • Has fluid footwork to redirect, reverse momentum and close with a burst. Regularly first off the ball with good snap anticipation.
  • Matlack has an excellent motor and shows the stamina to last deep into the fourth quarter.
  • He’s very instinctive when it comes to countering and solid with overall hand usage.
  • As a pass rusher, Matlack shows quickness off the line and has the fluid athleticism and flexibility to bend the edge.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Because of his athletic limitations, Matlack lacks the ceiling of some of this draft’s top edge rushers
  • Matlack is powerful but lacks the flexibility to consistently bend the edge, and he lacks the kind of twitchy overall athleticism to develop into an elite pass rusher.
  • Unless he’s able to add more weight and strength to his frame (at the risk of losing speed and athleticism), he’ll lose more often than he’ll win if he gets caught in the phone booth with NFL linemen.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
