Draft Profile: Bio

Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, Jordan Jefferson developed an early passion for football, inspired by his father, a former player at Alcorn State. His family moved to Navarre, Florida, during his youth, where he attended Navarre High School. There, Jefferson made an immediate impact on the football field and weight room, leading his team to the 2018 6A District championship game as a senior and earning first-team All-Area honors with 60 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, and 5 sacks.

Jefferson began his collegiate career at West Virginia, where he enrolled in June 2019. Over four seasons, he played in 55 games, starting 25, and tallied a total of 90 tackles, 21.5 for loss, and 6 sacks. His standout performance in 2022 earned him Honorable Mention All-Big 12 as he led his team with 9.5 tackles for loss and added 5 pass breakups. Capitalizing on an extra year of eligibility, he transferred to LSU for the 2023 season, contributing with 36 tackles, 7 for loss, and 2.5 sacks over 13 games.

Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Made Bruce Feldman's Freak's List - ranked #71. He wrote "Jefferson squatted 695, power-cleaned 395, and benched 495 pounds. He also moved remarkably well, vertical-jumping 34 1/2 inches and clocking a 4.52 in his pro agility time."
  • Explosive first step that gives him a considerable advantage in neutral zone engagements.
  • Exceptional lateral agility allows him to effectively mirror zone blocks and counter cutbacks.
  • Strong upper-body with impressive hand strength that aids in shedding blocks and tackling.
  • Effective use of push/pull techniques to disrupt and disengage from centers.
  • Noteworthy motor and endurance that sustain his performance across plays and games.
  • Positional and scheme flexibility make him adaptable across defensive formats.
  • Resilient against one-on-one matchups in the run game, difficult to displace.
  • Proven track record of disrupting plays behind the line of scrimmage.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Struggles with maintaining leverage against double teams, often losing balance and effectiveness.
  • Lacks a diverse set of pass-rushing moves, relying mostly on brute strength.
  • Inconsistent in using his arms to fully extend and control blockers, leading to missed opportunities.
  • Tendency to play with high pad level, diminishing his impact against stronger offensive lines.
  • Overall agility and ability to redirect are below average, affecting his gap control on stretch runs.
Scouting Report: Summary

Jordan Jefferson has shown the raw tools expected of a serviceable NFL interior lineman. His explosive first step and strong hand usage make him effective against the run, and he demonstrates the ability to disrupt plays in the backfield. However, his overall impact is limited by his inconsistent technique and lack of versatility in pass-rushing situations.

At this stage, Jefferson is best suited for a rotational role within a defensive line scheme that leverages his strengths in run defense. He needs to develop a more refined set of pass-rushing moves and improve his pad level and leverage to handle the complex blocking schemes he will face at the professional level. These improvements are crucial for him to transition from a two-down player to an every-down contributor.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
