Draft Profile: Bio
Ja'Tavion Sanders from Ryan High School was rated a 5-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 5-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, Sanders opted to join Texas. In 2021 as a freshman Sanders saw action in just 3 games for the Longhorns and didn't feature in the passing game.
As a sophomore in 2022 he played 12 games and had 49 catches for 577 yards for an average of 11.8 yards per catch, with 5 TDs, and an excellent QB rating when targeted of 119.3. In pass protection he gave up 4 pressures and no sacks.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Sanders can move the chains and has the skills to stand out in the red zone with sneaky foot speed and long stride to top producing tight end.
- An elusive and creative runner in space, Sanders has the lateral agility and stop-start ability to make tacklers swing and miss. He shows good hands and coordination as an underneath catch-and-run target.
- Sanders is a natural playmaker, at his best with the ball in his hands.
- Although he is more of a possession target than a field stretcher, he fiercely competitive demeanor and run-after-catch ability make him a major threat in the middle of the field.
- Runs precise routes with mostly crisp cuts. Very difficult to cover, gets separation consistently.
- Catches well in traffic, shields the ball from defenders with his frame, and holds on despite being hit. Will fully extend, snatch, and stay in bounds.
- Has extremely good, soft, natural hands. Consistently makes the clean catch.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Sanders isn’t going to overwhelm opposing defensive backs with speed and athleticism.
- His playing speed is less than elite. He won’t run past defenders like Sanders did at the college level.
- Sanders doesn’t have the ability as a run blocker or the violent run-after-catch ability.
