Draft Profile: Bio
Brant Kuithe was a versatile offensive weapon at Cinco Ranch HS where he earned District 19-6A MVP honors as a senior. The three-star recruit took his multi-dimensional skillset to Utah, where he transformed into one of the most productive tight ends in program history. Despite standing just 6'2" and weighing 236 pounds, Kuithe's impact can't be measured by his frame – accumulating 183 receptions, 2,387 receiving yards, and 22 touchdowns over his collegiate career, all Utah tight end records.

What makes Kuithe's resume even more impressive is how he consistently found ways to impact games when healthy. He developed into a four-time all-conference selection, including First-Team All-Big 12 honors in his final season. His production wasn't just steady – it was explosive, evidenced by four 100+ yard receiving performances throughout his career. During his 2019 campaign, Kuithe averaged a blistering 17.71 yards per reception, ranking 2nd among all FBS tight ends, while his nine total touchdowns that season tied for the national lead at his position.

The journey hasn't been without significant hurdles, however. After establishing himself as one of college football's premier receiving tight ends through 2021, Kuithe's last two seasons were defined by medical setbacks. A devastating injury just four games into 2022 (during which he'd already scored 3 TDs) derailed his momentum, and after missing the entire 2023 season, he returned for a shortened 2024 where he still managed to lead all Big 12 tight ends in receiving yards and touchdowns before another season-ending injury against BYU.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Surgical route runner who manipulates defenders with subtle head fakes and pace changes, creating separation where it doesn't exist naturally at the stem of his routes.
  • Accelerates like a wideout off the line with deceptive long speed.
  • Nasty after the catch with natural running back vision and balance – doesn't go down on first contact and turns routine completions into chunk plays.
  • Versatility jumps off the tape with experience lining up inline, in the slot, out wide, and even taking handoffs (11 career rushing TDs shows his unique skill package).
  • Shows surprising pop on initial contact as a blocker despite size limitations, particularly effective sealing edges on outside zone runs when aligned in the slot.
  • Red zone maestro who understands spatial awareness, consistently finding soft spots against zone coverage and creating quick separation against man.
  • Presents a clean target for QBs with natural hands positioning away from his body, extending to snatch throws outside his frame without breaking stride.
  • High football intelligence reflected in his route adjustments against coverage – regularly finds the void in zones and makes himself available in scramble drills.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Medical history raises significant red flags after appearing in just 13 games over his final three collegiate seasons, creating durability concerns for his NFL projection.
  • Significantly undersized frame at 236 pounds will limit his effectiveness as an in-line blocker against powerful NFL edge defenders.
  • Advanced age as a prospect – will turn 26 during his rookie season, limiting his potential developmental timeline and long-term contract value.
  • Struggles mightily in contested catch situations where he can be bodied out of position by more physical defenders due to limited play strength.
  • Focus drops show up on tape more frequently than they should for a player with his receiving production – will inexplicably mishandle routine catches.
Scouting Report: Summary
What you're getting with Kuithe is a dynamic receiving weapon disguised as a tight end. His value lies primarily in the passing game, where he can be deployed across multiple alignments to create coverage nightmares. The tape shows a much more polished route runner on short to intermediate patterns than most tight ends entering the league, with an extra gear that allows him to threaten defenses vertically when scheming requires it.

The ideal offensive system for Kuithe involves heavy pre-snap motion, 12 personnel groupings with spread concepts, and designed opportunities to get him in space after the catch. He's not your typical in-line tight end who will consistently set the edge against defensive ends or linebackers. Instead, his contributions in the run game will come more from crack blocks, wham plays, and sealing defenders when aligned in the slot – areas where his quickness and technique can overcome size limitations.

Medical concerns will weigh heavily in war room discussions, but teams consistently searching for matchup advantages will be tempted by Kuithe's receiving upside. His ceiling as a complementary piece in a progressive passing attack makes him worthy of late day 3 consideration.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
