Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall B
ValueC NeedB+ TradesB FutureB
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Seahawks a B.

The Jamaree Caldwell pick is the one that will follow the Seahawks into the fall. They took him 116 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

Getting Gabriel where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through linebacker.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Grey Zabel
In pick No. 18 they get protection for the quarterback, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick64 Rnd2 Tre Harris
Nice patience on Tre Harris, who had no business lasting to pick 64. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick82 Rnd3 Charles Grant
A reach on Charles Grant in the 82nd overall pick; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick129 Rnd4 Darius Alexander
A straight-up fair deal on Darius Alexander at slot 129, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick137 Rnd4 David Walker
David Walker at No. 137 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick181 Rnd6 Pat Bryant
You do not let a wide receiver like Pat Bryant reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick187 Rnd6 Dillon Gabriel
Dillon Gabriel in pick 187 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick212 Rnd6 Clay Webb
They talked themselves into Clay Webb at No. 212, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick216 Rnd6 Jamaree Caldwell
Jamaree Caldwell at the 216th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick236 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes in Round 7, Pick 18 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
