Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall A-
ValueA- NeedB TradesA+ FutureA
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Patriots and Fitzgerald: A-.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Ryan Fitzgerald slide 102 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Adding Josh Downs by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

In the end it comes back to Josh Simmons, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Walter Nolen
A tidy bit of business in slot 38, where Walter Nolen graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick45 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in No. 45 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker at the 69th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick77 Rnd3 Omarion Hampton
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Omarion Hampton in pick No. 77, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick105 Rnd4 Savion Williams
Savion Williams at the 105th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick145 Rnd5 Barrett Carter
The board fumbled Barrett Carter all the way to pick 145, and they scooped it up. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick219 Rnd7 Ryan Fitzgerald
They will replay Ryan Fitzgerald at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick222 Rnd7 Jordan Hancock
You do not let a safety like Jordan Hancock reach pick No. 222 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick234 Rnd7 Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne at slot 234 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick240 Rnd7 Miles Frazier
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Miles Frazier at the Round 7 slot is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
