Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Chiefs let James fall and pounced. Final grade: B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. DJ James, the No. 113 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 175. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Robinson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Troy Franklin
In pick No. 31 they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick63
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul at the 63rd overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick94
Rnd3
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at pick 94 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick131
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at slot 131 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick161
Rnd5
Edefuan Ulofoshio
They did well to land Edefuan Ulofoshio in the Round 5 slot, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick171
Rnd5
Christian Jones
They reached a country mile for Christian Jones at the 171st pick, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick175
Rnd5
DJ James
Taking DJ James in No. 175 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick209
Rnd6
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in Round 6, Pick 34 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick252
Rnd7
Myles Jones
They barely believed it either: Myles Jones still on the board at No. 252. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
