Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Giants. The Giants went off the board in a big way for Tanor Bortolini, 35 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
Job largely done: safety settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In No. 18 they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
A reach for Kris Jenkins in slot 39; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick47
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
No edge and no loss on T.J. Tampa in Round 2, Pick 15; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick49
Rnd2
Junior Colson
Junior Colson in pick No. 49 is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick70
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at the 70th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick106
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
A straight-up fair deal on Braelon Allen at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick140
Rnd5
Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith at Round 5, Pick 4 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick182
Rnd6
Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini at pick No. 182 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick214
Rnd6
Kimani Vidal
Kimani Vidal at pick 214 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
