BORSON94 DRAFTING FOR THEBengals

Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB
FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Bengals: B. The Bengals clearly saw something nobody else did in Hayden Hatten, taking him 47 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They banked enough surplus on Fuaga to cover a lot of smaller sins.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In the 27th overall pick they get a blindside protector at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick49
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kris Jenkins. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick71
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick80
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
Mike Sainristil at pick No. 80 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick90
Rnd3
DeWayne Carter
They paid up for DeWayne Carter at pick 90 when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick115
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ben Sinnott. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick151
Rnd5
Braelon Allen
By-the-book stuff, Braelon Allen at the 151st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick173
Rnd5
Jaylan Ford
No edge and no loss on Jaylan Ford in slot 173; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick196
Rnd6
Christian Jones
They did well to land Christian Jones in the 196th pick, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick238
Rnd7
McKade Mettauer
They reached a country mile for McKade Mettauer at No. 238, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick254
Rnd7
Hayden Hatten
A wild overpay on Hayden Hatten in Round 7, Pick 34, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
