Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Chiefs: B-.

The Chiefs spent real capital to be 84 picks early on Jared Wiley, and the board is going to hold them to it. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

However the rest shakes out, Simpson at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Jordan Morgan
In the 28th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick60 Rnd2 Calen Bullock
The board had Calen Bullock higher than No. 60, and the safety fell to them anyway. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick91 Rnd3 Roman Wilson
They paid sticker price for Roman Wilson in the 91st overall pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick128 Rnd4 Dylan Laube
They liked Dylan Laube enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 128. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick161 Rnd5 AJ Barner
AJ Barner in Round 5, Pick 25 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jaylin Simpson
A cornerback of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick175 Rnd5 Ty'Ron Hopper
A clean, defensible pick in the 175th pick with a little surplus value in Ty'Ron Hopper. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick206 Rnd6 Jared Wiley
They reached a country mile for Jared Wiley at Round 6, Pick 31, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick249 Rnd7 Jermayne Lole
A big swing on Jermayne Lole at No. 249, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
