bringbackbrady DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots

Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B

FutureC+
The Patriots robbed the room for Edwards. Final grade: B. Call it larceny. Donovan Edwards sat on the board until Round 7, Pick 22, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
If Hemingway pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Will Johnson
A tidy bit of business in pick 15, where Will Johnson graded well above the range. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick16
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In the 16th overall pick they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick46
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker at slot 46 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick69
Rnd3
Marcus Mbow
Marcus Mbow slipping to the 69th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick77
Rnd3
Harold Fannin Jr.
Harold Fannin Jr. in No. 77 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick105
Rnd4
Jayden Higgins
Somehow Jayden Higgins was still sitting there in Round 4, Pick 4, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick117
Rnd4
Charles Grant
They will replay Charles Grant at the Round 4 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick145
Rnd5
Ajani Cornelius
Taking Ajani Cornelius in pick No. 145 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Pick219
Rnd7
Tonka Hemingway
A wild overpay on Tonka Hemingway in No. 219, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick222
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
No edge and no loss on Teddye Buchanan in Round 7, Pick 4; it is a wash and a sensible one. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick240
Rnd7
Donovan Edwards
A running back of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
