Draft Grade — Steelers

Grand theft in No. 185: the Steelers steal Simon and grade out a B. Call it larceny. Cody Simon sat on the board until pick 185, and the Steelers did not need to be asked twice.
They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. It is not that Grant is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first. Every board in the league had Fairchild lower, and that gap is the story.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In the 21st overall pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick83
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild in pick No. 83 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick123
Rnd4
Charles Grant
A want over a need in slot 123: Charles Grant adds an offensive lineman while safety, edge rusher and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick156
Rnd5
Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough at Round 5, Pick 18 is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick185
Rnd6
Cody Simon
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 185 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick229
Rnd7
Donovan Edwards
You do not let a running back like Donovan Edwards reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
