Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
The 49ers worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The 49ers took Collin Oliver a full 53 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.

That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.

Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In pick 17 they get a long-term starter on the line, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick24 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In No. 24 they get an anchor for the defensive front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 1, where Jalon Walker graded well above the range. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick46 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jihaad Campbell in the 46th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick75 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
A running back of that caliber at slot 75 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick76 Rnd3 Darien Porter
They paid sticker price for Darien Porter in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick81 Rnd3 Elic Ayomanor
Elic Ayomanor at No. 81 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick97 Rnd3 Dylan Fairchild
By-the-book stuff, Dylan Fairchild at slot 97 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick100 Rnd3 Jordan Phillips
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Phillips. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick113 Rnd4 Jamaree Caldwell
They jumped the gun on Jamaree Caldwell, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick138 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at pick 138 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick139 Rnd5 Tyler Shough
They took Tyler Shough at par in pick No. 139, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick147 Rnd5 Elijah Roberts
A big swing on Elijah Roberts at the 147th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick149 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick160 Rnd5 Oronde Gadsden II
They left a pile of value on the table to take Oronde Gadsden II this early at the Round 5 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick171 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
Pat Bryant in No. 171 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick174 Rnd5 Clay Webb
This one needs a full-page explanation: Clay Webb in Round 5, Pick 36, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick204 Rnd6 Donovan Edwards
No edge and no loss on Donovan Edwards in the 204th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick211 Rnd6 Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa in pick 211 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick218 Rnd7 Hayden Conner
Value said wait; Hayden Conner in slot 218 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick227 Rnd7 KeAndre Lambert-Smith
They barely believed it either: KeAndre Lambert-Smith still on the board at the 227th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick239 Rnd7 Collin Oliver
Collin Oliver in pick No. 239 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick252 Rnd7 Kitan Crawford
Kitan Crawford slipping to the 252nd overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
