FutureB+
The 49ers won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+. Whoever sat across the table from the 49ers should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
The cost of the Cook reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The veteran additions, Ben Powers chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick43
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
Aireontae Ersery in Round 2, Pick 11 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
The board had cheaper options than Jayden Higgins at slot 44, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick102
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at No. 102 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick130
Rnd4
Emery Jones Jr.
Emery Jones Jr. slipping to the 130th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick149
Rnd5
Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin in the 149th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick160
Rnd5
Elijah Roberts
They left a pile of value on the table to take Elijah Roberts this early at pick No. 160. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick171
Rnd5
Jake Briningstool
A tidy little value on Jake Briningstool in the Round 5 slot, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick196
Rnd6
Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed at pick 196 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick227
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan at the 227th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick249
Rnd7
Ty Hamilton
They took Ty Hamilton at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick252
Rnd7
Brady Cook
A big swing on Brady Cook at pick No. 252, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
