Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureC
A solid, sensible weekend for the 49ers: B-.

The 49ers spent real capital to be 43 picks early on Collin Oliver, and the board is going to hold them to it.

The Henderson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it. They bet on numbers rather than a single high pick.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In pick 20 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33 Rnd2 Walter Nolen
Walter Nolen at Round 2, Pick 1 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick75 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
A top-tier running back at a bargain, TreVeyon Henderson in the 75th pick, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick85 Rnd3 Charles Grant
Charles Grant at No. 85 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick100 Rnd3 Danny Stutsman
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Danny Stutsman in the Round 3 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Pick104 Rnd4 Tai Felton
Fair-plus on Tai Felton, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick138 Rnd4 Pat Bryant
A reach on Pat Bryant in the 138th overall pick; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick142 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
The board had cheaper options than O'Donnell Fortune at pick 142, and it noticed. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick160 Rnd5 Willie Lampkin
Willie Lampkin at Round 5, Pick 22 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick169 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in the 169th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick176 Rnd5 CJ West
A conviction pick on CJ West at No. 176 that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick177 Rnd6 Clay Webb
They liked Clay Webb enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 177. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick191 Rnd6 Jason Marshall Jr.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jason Marshall Jr. a notch or two before his time. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick203 Rnd6 Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II in the Round 6 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick227 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
By-the-book stuff, Isaac TeSlaa at slot 227 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick249 Rnd7 Collin Oliver
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Collin Oliver. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick252 Rnd7 Donovan Smith
Donovan Smith in the 252nd overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
