Draft Grade — Bears

FutureC
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Bears and Skattebo: B. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Bears watched Cam Skattebo slide 120 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. Reaching for Walker left real value on the table behind him.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Tate Ratledge
In the 28th pick they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick39
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
JT Tuimoloau at the Round 2 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick41
Rnd2
Deone Walker
A real head-scratcher, Deone Walker in Round 2, Pick 9 is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick72
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
They barely believed it either: Kaleb Johnson still on the board at slot 72. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick97
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
Somehow Andrew Mukuba was still sitting there in the 97th overall pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick147
Rnd5
Smael Mondon Jr.
You do not let a linebacker like Smael Mondon Jr. reach pick 147 and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick197
Rnd6
Connor Colby
Connor Colby in pick No. 197 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick233
Rnd7
Cam Skattebo
They will replay Cam Skattebo at No. 233 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick244
Rnd7
Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at No. 244 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
