Somebody in the 220th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while DJ Giddens, the No. 165 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. They are betting Burke proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
