Overall B-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Bears: B-.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Bears spent pick No. 35 on Charles Grant, a name most had 57 spots down the list. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Mason Graham
In No. 9 they get an anchor for the defensive front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick35 Rnd2 Charles Grant
They reached into another round for Charles Grant, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick41 Rnd2 Dylan Fairchild
A real head-scratcher, Dylan Fairchild in slot 41 is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick73 Rnd3 Darien Porter
The board had cheaper options than Darien Porter at Round 3, Pick 9, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick146 Rnd5 Jayden Higgins
A tidy little value on Jayden Higgins in the Round 5 slot, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick203 Rnd6 Jared Wilson
A reach for Jared Wilson in pick 203; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick226 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes at pick No. 226 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick244 Rnd7 Garrett Dellinger
Garrett Dellinger at pick 244 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
