Draft Grade — Bills
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB FutureB-
The Bills let Horton fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bills were there to profit. Tory Horton, the No. 109 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 173.

Joyner has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Spending an early pick on cornerback with linebacker, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the linebacker spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick37 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant in pick 37 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick56 Rnd2 Trey Amos
A reasonable price with a little left over, Trey Amos in the Round 2 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick62 Rnd2 Maxwell Hairston
A surprising call. With linebacker, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent slot 62 on Maxwell Hairston, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick74 Rnd3 Deone Walker
They jumped the gun on Deone Walker, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick108 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
Nice patience on Kevin Winston Jr., who had no business lasting to Round 4, Pick 6. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick109 Rnd4 Jah Joyner
Jah Joyner at pick No. 109 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick173 Rnd5 Tory Horton
Steal is underselling it; Tory Horton at No. 173 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick177 Rnd6 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They paid sticker price for Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 177th pick, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick180 Rnd6 Logan Brown
They will replay Logan Brown at the 180th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick206 Rnd6 Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II at Round 6, Pick 30 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
