MPA1978 DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB

FutureB-
The Bears let Ransom fall and pounced. Final grade: B. When a board-topper like Lathan Ransom slides to No. 149, you do not overthink it, and the Bears did not. The bottom line is a respectable B.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In pick No. 10 they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
Pick39
Rnd2
Derrick Harmon
Nice patience on Derrick Harmon, who had no business lasting to the 39th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick41
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
No drama and no debate, Tyler Booker went about where he belonged in pick 41. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick72
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson at slot 72 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick149
Rnd5
Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom in Round 5, Pick 10 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick197
Rnd6
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
Value with a capital V on KeAndre Lambert-Smith in the 197th overall pick, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick235
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
Fair-plus on Teddye Buchanan, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick242
Rnd7
Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne at No. 242 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
