Lmondloch DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Bears. Nobody had Tyler Batty this high, and it is not close. The Bears reached 76 spots to get him at Round 5, Pick 10. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Thomas steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In pick 10 they get an anchor for the defensive front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Booker at No. 39, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick41
Rnd2
Josh Conerly Jr.
Josh Conerly Jr. in slot 41 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick72
Rnd3
Azareye'h Thomas
They read the board right and Azareye'h Thomas was the payoff at the 72nd overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick149
Rnd5
Tyler Batty
They reached into another round for Tyler Batty, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick197
Rnd6
Antwane Wells Jr.
Nice patience on Antwane Wells Jr., who had no business lasting to the 197th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
