Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the 49ers and Hudson: B+.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Kobe Hudson, the No. 214 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 249th overall pick. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Kelvin Banks Jr.
In the 12th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick49 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
You do not let a linebacker like Jalon Walker reach the 49th pick and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick75 Rnd3 Omarr Norman-Lott
A reasonable price with a little left over, Omarr Norman-Lott in No. 75. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick76 Rnd3 Carson Schwesinger
A slide stopped in pick 76, with Carson Schwesinger worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick100 Rnd3 Kevin Winston Jr.
Fair-plus on Kevin Winston Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick113 Rnd4 Tez Johnson
A quiet steal in the Round 4 slot: Tez Johnson for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick138 Rnd4 Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne at Round 4, Pick 36 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick147 Rnd5 Logan Brown
They took Logan Brown at par in pick No. 147, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick149 Rnd5 Mitchell Evans
Good price on Mitchell Evans in slot 149, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick160 Rnd5 Tommi Hill
Tommi Hill at the 160th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick171 Rnd5 Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin in the Round 5 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick174 Rnd5 Chase Lundt
A clean, defensible pick in Round 5, Pick 36 with a little surplus value in Chase Lundt. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick204 Rnd6 Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards in pick No. 204 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick227 Rnd7 Carson Vinson
They paid sticker price for Carson Vinson in the 227th pick, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick247 Rnd7 Jabbar Muhammad
Jabbar Muhammad slid further than he should have, and No. 247 is lovely value for the cornerback. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick249 Rnd7 Kobe Hudson
Somehow Kobe Hudson was still sitting there in pick 249, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick252 Rnd7 Kitan Crawford
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kitan Crawford in the 252nd pick. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
