FutureA
The Bears let Wilson fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Jared Wilson, the No. 108 name on the board, stolen at the Round 5 slot.
If Judkins pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant in Round 1, Pick 24 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
JT Tuimoloau in pick No. 39 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick41
Rnd2
Quinshon Judkins
They talked themselves into Quinshon Judkins at slot 41, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick72
Rnd3
Marcus Mbow
Marcus Mbow at pick 72 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick97
Rnd3
Jake Majors
They took Jake Majors at par in the 97th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick149
Rnd5
Jared Wilson
Steal is underselling it; Jared Wilson at the 149th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick161
Rnd5
Connor Colby
The board had cheaper options than Connor Colby at No. 161, and it noticed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick197
Rnd6
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey at the Round 6 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick235
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Hayden Conner in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick242
Rnd7
Kobe Hudson
Kobe Hudson in slot 242 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
