Good, not great, for the Lions: B. The curious call sets the tone. With offensive lineman, safety and other spots still glaring, the Lions used pick No. 91 on McKinnley Jackson, an interior defensive lineman they were not exactly short of. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The offensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Watson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Jackson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
Good work on the whole, with offensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick59
Rnd2
Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III at Round 2, Pick 27 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick76
Rnd3
Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk at pick No. 76 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick91
Rnd3
McKinnley Jackson
A surprising call. With offensive lineman, safety and other spots still to address, they spent pick 91 on McKinnley Jackson, an interior defensive lineman they were not short of.
Pick108
Rnd4
Cam Hart
A tidy little value on Cam Hart in slot 108, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick164
Rnd5
Tre Harris
Tre Harris in No. 164 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick186
Rnd6
Keith Randolph Jr.
They went early on Keith Randolph Jr. in Round 6, Pick 11, and the value did not follow. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick205
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs at the 205th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick248
Rnd7
Blake Watson
Blake Watson in the Round 7 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A need, and now a little less of one.
