Draft Grade — Falcons
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Falcons finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B.

The Falcons spent the pick that matters most on Michael Penix Jr., and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

Jones has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Robinson steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Michael Penix Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Chop Robinson at pick No. 43. It fills a real need, too.
Pick74 Rnd3 Malachi Corley
Malachi Corley in the 74th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick110 Rnd4 DJ James
DJ James in Round 4, Pick 10 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick142 Rnd5 James Williams
James Williams at No. 142 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick189 Rnd6 Christian Jones
A wild overpay on Christian Jones in the 189th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick201 Rnd6 Austin Stogner
They went early on Austin Stogner in pick 201, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick241 Rnd7 Blake Watson
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Blake Watson. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
