Mr Maauto DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Chiefs. The Chiefs clearly saw something nobody else did in Cooper Beebe, taking him 23 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka in slot 25 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick57
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
They did well to land Patrick Paul in No. 57, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick89
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
A big swing on Cooper Beebe at pick No. 89, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick125
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
A real head-scratcher, Theo Johnson in the Round 4 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick167
Rnd5
Christian Jones
A conviction pick on Christian Jones at the 167th overall pick that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick171
Rnd5
Zion Tupuola-Fetui
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at Round 5, Pick 35 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick175
Rnd5
Michael Barrett
A reach on Michael Barrett in the 175th overall pick; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick203
Rnd6
Isaiah Davis
Isaiah Davis at the Round 6 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick246
Rnd7
Chad Lindberg
Chad Lindberg in pick 246 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
