Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Bears a B+.

Somebody in slot 256 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bears sat still while Chimere Dike, the No. 212 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.

The Lachey pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In pick No. 10 they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker in Round 2, Pick 7 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick44 Rnd2 Cameron Williams
A tidy little value on Cameron Williams in the 44th overall pick, a step better than break-even. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick45 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
The board had Derrick Harmon higher than pick No. 45, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick47 Rnd2 Kaleb Johnson
Good price on Kaleb Johnson in No. 47, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick66 Rnd3 Zy Alexander
They did well to land Zy Alexander in pick 66, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick72 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at Round 3, Pick 8 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick132 Rnd4 Tai Felton
Taking Tai Felton in slot 132 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick150 Rnd5 Cody Simon
Cody Simon slipping to the Round 5 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick153 Rnd5 Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in the 153rd pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick197 Rnd6 Jaylen Reed
Value with a capital V on Jaylen Reed in No. 197, a genuine coup. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick235 Rnd7 Jason Marshall Jr.
Circle this one: Jason Marshall Jr. at slot 235 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick242 Rnd7 John Williams
They took John Williams at par in pick No. 242, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick256 Rnd7 Chimere Dike
The board fumbled Chimere Dike all the way to the 256th pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
