Draft Grade — Cowboys

FutureB-
The phones sank the Cowboys this weekend: D-. The Cowboys spent real capital to be 206 picks early on Gerry Bohanon, and the board is going to hold them to it.
Landing Brooks that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
They paid sticker price for Emeka Egbuka in No. 22, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick44
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
A running back of that caliber at Round 2, Pick 12 is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick51
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori at the Round 2 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick76
Rnd3
Ajani Cornelius
They talked themselves into Ajani Cornelius at pick No. 76, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick81
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins at the 81st pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick84
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
A top-tier running back at a bargain, TreVeyon Henderson in the 84th overall pick, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick86
Rnd3
Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson at the Round 3 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick88
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild at No. 88 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick99
Rnd3
Savion Williams
They jumped the gun on Savion Williams, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick111
Rnd4
Rylie Mills
Value said wait; Rylie Mills in the 111th pick says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick117
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
Taking Tez Johnson in the 117th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick119
Rnd4
Donovan Smith
A wild overpay on Donovan Smith in slot 119, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick120
Rnd4
Nicholas Singleton
Somehow Nicholas Singleton was still sitting there in Round 4, Pick 19, and they pounced on premier running back value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick124
Rnd4
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They reached into another round for Dont'e Thornton Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick148
Rnd5
Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. in the 148th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick150
Rnd5
Vernon Broughton
Vernon Broughton in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick156
Rnd5
Hayden Conner
A quiet steal in slot 156: Hayden Conner for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick168
Rnd5
Oronde Gadsden II
They will replay Oronde Gadsden II at pick 168 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Pick170
Rnd5
Smael Mondon Jr.
Circle this one: Smael Mondon Jr. at pick No. 170 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick204
Rnd6
Ty Hamilton
They paid a round early for Ty Hamilton in the 204th overall pick, more than the board wanted. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick209
Rnd6
Tahj Brooks
Tahj Brooks in Round 6, Pick 34 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick247
Rnd7
Gerry Bohanon
A big swing on Gerry Bohanon at No. 247, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
