FutureA
Grand theft in No. 147: the Bears steal Mondon Jr. and grade out a A-. The Bears spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Smael Mondon Jr., the No. 100 name on the board, in Round 5, Pick 10. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. If Walker pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Bottom line, with Tyler Booker leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick35
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Booker at slot 35 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick39
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
A premium they did not need to pay, JT Tuimoloau a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick41
Rnd2
Deone Walker
Deone Walker in the 41st overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick44
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
No edge and no loss on Xavier Watts in pick No. 44; it is a wash and a sensible one. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick72
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
They barely believed it either: Kaleb Johnson still on the board at Round 3, Pick 8. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick76
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
A tidy little value on Quinshon Judkins in the Round 3 slot, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick101
Rnd3
Jake Majors
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jake Majors at No. 101. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick118
Rnd4
Luke Kandra
A slide stopped in pick 118, with Luke Kandra worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick140
Rnd5
Jaeden Roberts
A real head-scratcher, Jaeden Roberts in No. 140 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick147
Rnd5
Smael Mondon Jr.
They robbed the room for Smael Mondon Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
