Best value of the weekend goes to the Dolphins for Mondon Jr.: B+. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Dolphins were there to profit. Smael Mondon Jr., the No. 98 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 231.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Reaching for Nash left real value on the table behind him.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Wyatt Milum
In the 14th pick they get a blindside protector at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick48
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Somehow Nick Emmanwori was still sitting there in pick 48, and they pounced on premier safety value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick81
Rnd3
Jake Majors
The board had cheaper options than Jake Majors at slot 81, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick98
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at No. 98 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick114
Rnd4
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor in the Round 4 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick133
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
Taking Cam Skattebo in Round 4, Pick 32 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick149
Rnd5
Barrett Carter
They barely believed it either: Barrett Carter still on the board at the 149th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick154
Rnd5
Connor Colby
Connor Colby at pick No. 154 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick224
Rnd7
Nick Nash
A premium they did not need to pay, Nick Nash a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick231
Rnd7
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. at pick 231 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick252
Rnd7
Garrett Dellinger
Garrett Dellinger in the 252nd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
