Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-

A solid, sensible weekend for the 49ers: B-.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Caleb Lomu; the 49ers did not wait, grabbing him 22 spots ahead at Round 1, Pick 27. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. However the rest shakes out, Barham at that price is a win they earned. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick58 Rnd2 Arch Manning
Circle this one: Arch Manning at No. 58 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick89 Rnd3 Keith Abney II
No edge and no loss on Keith Abney II in the 89th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick128 Rnd4 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
They paid a round early for Ar'maj Reed-Adams in pick 128, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick136 Rnd4 Terry Moore
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Terry Moore at pick No. 136 is the proof. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick139 Rnd4 Jaishawn Barham
Jaishawn Barham at the 139th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
Pick141 Rnd4 J.C. Davis
J.C. Davis at pick No. 141 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick180 Rnd5 Oscar Delp
By-the-book stuff, Oscar Delp at No. 180 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick196 Rnd6 Dane Key
Dane Key in the 196th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
