Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueC NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
The Patriots worked the phones like thieves and earned a B.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Patriots reached some 142 spots for Anthony Belton, and value like that does not grow back. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

The Watts value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.

The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The veteran additions, Will Fries chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Aireontae Ersery
In pick 25 they get protection for the quarterback, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 6, where Kenneth Grant graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick58 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell in the Round 2 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick69 Rnd3 Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in slot 69 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick77 Rnd3 Xavier Watts
They barely believed it either: Xavier Watts still on the board at No. 77. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick104 Rnd4 Anthony Belton
Value said wait; Anthony Belton in pick No. 104 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick143 Rnd5 Carson Schwesinger
They will replay Carson Schwesinger at pick No. 143 for years; that is how good the value is. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick217 Rnd7 Nick Nash
A big swing on Nick Nash at slot 217, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick220 Rnd7 Nohl Williams
Nohl Williams at the 220th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick238 Rnd7 Traeshon Holden
Traeshon Holden at pick 238 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick241 Rnd7 Jalen Rivers
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jalen Rivers. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
