Beck is the Giants' new face under center. Grade: B-. Start where it matters. The Giants took Carson Beck to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The Abrams-Draine pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman, wide receiver and other spots. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. If Beebe pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
The Brandon Scherff pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Carson Beck
In No. 28 they get their guy under center for the next decade, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Pick35
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
They paid a round early for Cooper Beebe in the 35th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick57
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
Kris Jenkins in the 57th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick60
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell at pick 60 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick67
Rnd3
Kris Abrams-Draine
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 3, Pick 3 on Kris Abrams-Draine with interior defensive lineman, wide receiver and other spots unsolved.
Pick73
Rnd3
Blake Corum
Blake Corum at the Round 3 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick103
Rnd4
Jason Marshall Jr.
Jason Marshall Jr. in pick No. 103 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick128
Rnd4
Zach Frazier
They paid sticker price for Zach Frazier in slot 128, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick140
Rnd5
Cole Bishop
Nice patience on Cole Bishop, who had no business lasting to pick No. 140. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
