Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
The Chiefs checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

The Walter Rouse pick is the one that will follow the Chiefs into the fall. They took him 91 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.

The Robinson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Terrion Arnold
In the 32nd overall pick they get a sticky cover corner, outstanding value to boot.
Pick77 Rnd3 Johnny Wilson
Good price on Johnny Wilson in the Round 3 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick95 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter in pick No. 95 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick133 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson is a better player than slot 133 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick139 Rnd5 Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson at Round 5, Pick 3 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick147 Rnd5 Kamal Hadden
They did well to land Kamal Hadden in No. 147, just ahead of his grade. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick158 Rnd5 Brennan Jackson
A big swing on Brennan Jackson at the 158th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick172 Rnd5 Michael Barrett
A reach on Michael Barrett in the Round 5 slot; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick190 Rnd6 Walter Rouse
Walter Rouse at Round 6, Pick 15 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick250 Rnd7 Nathaniel Watson
Nathaniel Watson in No. 250 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick253 Rnd7 Isaac Guerendo
Isaac Guerendo at pick No. 253 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick254 Rnd7 Matthew Jones
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Matthew Jones. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick257 Rnd7 DeMonte Capehart
Value said wait; DeMonte Capehart in the 257th overall pick says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
