Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesB FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Chiefs.

You can draft well and still miss the point. The Chiefs did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to tight end, which was the need that mattered most.

On value alone, Perry makes the weekend a net positive. They are betting Davis proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick Analysis
Pick35 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
A reasonable price with a little left over, Xavier Legette in pick 35. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick60 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
Good price on Kingsley Suamataia in the 60th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick71 Rnd3 Ruke Orhorhoro
No edge and no loss on Ruke Orhorhoro in slot 71; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick91 Rnd3 Ray Davis
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ray Davis in the 91st pick, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
Pick128 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
No drama and no debate, Cedric Gray went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick161 Rnd5 LaDarius Henderson
A straight-up fair deal on LaDarius Henderson at pick No. 161, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick171 Rnd5 Andru Phillips
They did well to land Andru Phillips in No. 171, just ahead of his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick175 Rnd5 Josh Proctor
They paid up for Josh Proctor at Round 5, Pick 39 when waiting would have done the job. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick206 Rnd6 Omar Speights
Omar Speights at the Round 6 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick227 Rnd7 Trevor Keegan
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trevor Keegan. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick249 Rnd7 Mark Perry
They read the board right and Mark Perry was the payoff at Round 7, Pick 29. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
