Grs107 DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Chiefs checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Chiefs started one anyway for Jawhar Jordan, 27 picks ahead of schedule.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They banked enough surplus on Henderson to cover a lot of smaller sins. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick No. 28 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick60
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
Fair-plus on Kingsley Suamataia, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick91
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
Michael Hall Jr. at the 91st overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick128
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop at pick 128 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick161
Rnd5
Edefuan Ulofoshio
Edefuan Ulofoshio at the Round 5 slot is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick171
Rnd5
LaDarius Henderson
LaDarius Henderson is a better player than No. 171 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick175
Rnd5
Jawhar Jordan
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jawhar Jordan well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick206
Rnd6
Omar Speights
Nothing to complain about; Omar Speights went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick249
Rnd7
Jaylon Carlies
They talked themselves into Jaylon Carlies at the 249th pick, and the board did not agree. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
