Grs107 DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs

Draft Grade — Chiefs

FutureB-
The Chiefs let Pritchett fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Nehemiah Pritchett, the No. 141 name on the board, stolen at Round 5, Pick 25. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end, quarterback and other spots still on the board. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Reaching for Williams left real value on the table behind him.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. at the Round 1 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick60
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul slipping to slot 60 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick91
Rnd3
Maason Smith
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went DT-EDGE with Maason Smith while clear needs at tight end, quarterback and other spots sat open.
Pick128
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
A straight-up fair deal on Cedric Gray at pick 128, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick161
Rnd5
Nehemiah Pritchett
You do not let a cornerback like Nehemiah Pritchett reach Round 5, Pick 25 and blink. They did not. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick171
Rnd5
Isaiah Williams
Isaiah Williams at the 171st overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick175
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
Kitan Oladapo at pick No. 175 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick206
Rnd6
Omar Speights
A reasonable price with a little left over, Omar Speights in the 206th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick249
Rnd7
Mark Perry
Mark Perry at the 249th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
