Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Chiefs a B-.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but DeMonte Capehart at No. 254 is 44 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

Simpson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul at slot 32 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick64 Rnd2 Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson at the Round 2 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick95 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
By-the-book stuff, Zak Zinter at the 95th pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick133 Rnd4 Kamal Hadden
Kamal Hadden in the 133rd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick158 Rnd5 Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright at Round 5, Pick 22 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick187 Rnd6 Jaylin Simpson
Taking Jaylin Simpson in pick No. 187 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick210 Rnd6 Braiden McGregor
A straight-up fair deal on Braiden McGregor at the 210th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick250 Rnd7 Walter Rouse
A big swing on Walter Rouse at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick253 Rnd7 Xavier Thomas
This one needs a full-page explanation: Xavier Thomas in Round 7, Pick 33, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick254 Rnd7 DeMonte Capehart
They reached a country mile for DeMonte Capehart at slot 254, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick257 Rnd7 Isaac Guerendo
They reached into another round for Isaac Guerendo, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
