Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB+
Hardy should have been long gone. The Chiefs pounced, and earned a B+.

The Chiefs ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.

On value alone, Hardy makes the weekend a net positive. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick48 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Patrick Paul. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick60 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick 60 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick135 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
Fair-plus on Cedric Gray, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick155 Rnd5 Cody Schrader
Cody Schrader in slot 155 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford at pick No. 171 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick183 Rnd6 Rasheen Ali
They took Rasheen Ali at par in Round 6, Pick 8, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick187 Rnd6 Christian Jones
Christian Jones at the 187th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick195 Rnd6 Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini at pick No. 195 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick206 Rnd6 Isaiah Williams
A quiet steal in No. 206: Isaiah Williams for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick211 Rnd6 Brevyn Spann-Ford
By-the-book stuff, Brevyn Spann-Ford at Round 6, Pick 36 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick237 Rnd7 Daequan Hardy
Daequan Hardy at slot 237 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick249 Rnd7 Ja'Had Carter
The board had Ja'Had Carter higher than pick 249, and the safety fell to them anyway. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
