Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureC+
The Bears won the night they stopped Fitzgerald from sliding. Grade: B. Thirty-one other rooms let Ryan Fitzgerald slide, and the Bears were the ones holding the card at pick 249. Highway robbery. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. They will need Simpkins III to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In pick 14 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Booker at the 39th pick, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick41
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka in pick No. 41 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick45
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
A safety of that caliber at No. 45 is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick72
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
Nice patience on Alfred Collins, who had no business lasting to the Round 3 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick95
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
You do not let a running back like TreVeyon Henderson reach slot 95 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick149
Rnd5
Chris Paul Jr.
They will replay Chris Paul Jr. at the 149th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick197
Rnd6
Jared Wilson
The board fumbled Jared Wilson all the way to Round 6, Pick 19, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick235
Rnd7
LeQuint Allen
Circle this one: LeQuint Allen at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick242
Rnd7
Torricelli Simpkins III
Torricelli Simpkins III in pick No. 242 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick249
Rnd7
Ryan Fitzgerald
Ryan Fitzgerald at Round 7, Pick 31 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
