FutureD
The Bills did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. It is the swing that defines the weekend: Cedric Johnson in the Round 5 slot, a good 65 spots before the room expected him. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Troy Franklin
In No. 28 they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
They went early on T'Vondre Sweat in pick No. 33, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick60
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
Nice patience on Cooper Beebe, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 28. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick65
Rnd3
Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman in the 65th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick90
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
No edge and no loss on Dominick Puni in pick 90; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick134
Rnd4
Jalyx Hunt
Jalyx Hunt in slot 134 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick144
Rnd5
Khristian Boyd
They left a pile of value on the table to take Khristian Boyd this early at pick 144. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick160
Rnd5
Cedric Johnson
A big swing on Cedric Johnson at the 160th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick163
Rnd5
Beau Brade
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Beau Brade in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick189
Rnd6
Brandon Coleman
Fair-plus on Brandon Coleman, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick200
Rnd6
Frank Gore Jr.
A real head-scratcher, Frank Gore Jr. in slot 200 is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick204
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
They did well to land Curtis Jacobs in Round 6, Pick 29, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick248
Rnd7
Dominique Hampton
Dominique Hampton in pick No. 248 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
