Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA- FutureB+
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Bears and Mullings: B.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Kalel Mullings, the No. 112 name on the board, stolen at slot 203.

They are betting Toia proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
In slot 16 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at the 35th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick41 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
They did well to land Tyler Booker in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick73 Rnd3 Deone Walker
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Deone Walker. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick74 Rnd3 Logan Brown
Logan Brown at pick 74 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
Pick117 Rnd4 Evan Stewart
Value with a capital V on Evan Stewart in Round 4, Pick 16, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick118 Rnd4 Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter at pick No. 118 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick146 Rnd5 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
They talked themselves into Ar'maj Reed-Adams at the 146th pick, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick149 Rnd5 Sonny Styles
Circle this one: Sonny Styles at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick171 Rnd5 Bryce Foster
Bryce Foster at the 171st overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick203 Rnd6 Kalel Mullings
Kalel Mullings at pick 203 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick226 Rnd7 Xavier Nwankpa
A safety of that caliber at slot 226 is the definition of value, full stop. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick244 Rnd7 Jay Toia
Value said wait; Jay Toia in Round 7, Pick 30 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
