Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
A
ValueA+
NeedB
TradesB+
FutureA+
The Cowboys let Restrepo fall and pounced. Final grade: A. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Xavier Restrepo, the No. 49 name on the board, stolen at slot 248. Very little went wrong, and the A is earned.
That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Adding Jayden Reed by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
In the end it comes back to Ashton Jeanty, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick44
Rnd2
Ashton Jeanty
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Ashton Jeanty in the Round 2 slot, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jalon Walker
A linebacker of that caliber at slot 76 is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick79
Rnd3
Walter Nolen
Walter Nolen at pick 79 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick148
Rnd5
Wyatt Milum
Wyatt Milum in the 148th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick168
Rnd5
Dylan Fairchild
Taking Dylan Fairchild in No. 168 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick170
Rnd5
Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson at pick No. 170 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick186
Rnd6
T.J. Sanders
They will replay T.J. Sanders at Round 6, Pick 11 for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick195
Rnd6
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in the 195th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick205
Rnd6
Jihaad Campbell
They robbed the room for Jihaad Campbell here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick209
Rnd6
Tre Harris
Circle this one: Tre Harris at the 209th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick248
Rnd7
Xavier Restrepo
Xavier Restrepo at slot 248 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
