The Commanders robbed the room for Zvada. Final grade: B. Somebody in the 246th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Dominic Zvada, the No. 95 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. The roster is better shaped than it was, with tight end chief among the fixes.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a rangy last line of defense at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick65
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
The board had Dylan Fairchild higher than pick No. 65, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick79
Rnd3
Tyler Warren
You do not let a tight end like Tyler Warren reach No. 79 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick107
Rnd4
Demetrius Knight Jr.
Demetrius Knight Jr. in the 107th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick108
Rnd4
TreVeyon Henderson
They will replay TreVeyon Henderson at pick 108 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick134
Rnd4
Gunnar Helm
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Gunnar Helm in slot 134, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick146
Rnd5
Kevin Winston Jr.
They barely believed it either: Kevin Winston Jr. still on the board at the 146th pick. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick203
Rnd6
Addison West
Taking Addison West in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick246
Rnd7
Dominic Zvada
Circle this one: Dominic Zvada at the 246th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick247
Rnd7
Cody Simon
They robbed the room for Cody Simon here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
