The 49ers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Desmond Watson at the 180th overall pick regardless, 48 picks early.

Alexander at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

So much rides on Jahdae Barron that the real verdict is a season or two away.
