Draft Grade — Browns
Overall D+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureA+
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Browns and Hancock: D+.

The Browns put a flag in the ground for Jalen Milroe, 33 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Put together, it is a D+.

That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 Shemar Stewart
In No. 16 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick30 Rnd1 Jahdae Barron
In pick 30 they get a potential shutdown corner, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
Nice patience on Emeka Egbuka, who had no business lasting to the 33rd pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick56 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
JT Tuimoloau in pick No. 56 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick62 Rnd2 Jalen Milroe
A wild overpay on Jalen Milroe in the 62nd pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick67 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and TreVeyon Henderson at the 67th overall pick is the proof. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick94 Rnd3 Will Howard
Will Howard in No. 94 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick103 Rnd4 Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson in pick No. 103 lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick165 Rnd5 Cody Simon
Taking Cody Simon in pick 165 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick181 Rnd6 Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius at slot 181 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
Pick216 Rnd6 Seth McLaughlin
This one needs a full-page explanation: Seth McLaughlin in the Round 6 slot, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick217 Rnd6 Oronde Gadsden II
They barely believed it either: Oronde Gadsden II still on the board at Round 6, Pick 39. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick257 Rnd7 Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
